Rules that produce too many violations, how to tune

Last reviewed Sep 6, 2026

If a rule is generating far more violations than your team can reasonably review, it's usually a sign the rule is broader than intended, not that your content is unusually inconsistent.

How to tune it

  1. Review a sample of the violations it's generating; look for a common pattern in what's being caught unnecessarily.
  2. Narrow the rule's pattern to exclude that specific case, rather than disabling the rule entirely.
  3. Test the adjusted rule before reactivating it, to confirm the change had the intended effect.
  4. If the volume is still too high, consider whether the rule is trying to check for too many things at once, and whether it should be split into more focused rules instead.
