Using insights to decide which rules to change

Last reviewed Sep 6, 2026

Insights are most useful as a signal for where to focus your rule maintenance, not as a report card on your team.

Signs a rule may need tuning

Too broad, too narrow, or repeatedly dismissed

  • A rule that generates a very high volume of violations relative to others may be too broad, catching things that aren't actually problems.
  • A rule with very few violations despite covering an area where you know inconsistency exists may be too narrow to catch real issues.
  • A rule whose violations are consistently dismissed with the same reason is a strong signal the rule itself needs adjusting, not that people keep breaking it.

What to do with that signal

Open the rule in Settings and consider adjusting its pattern, severity, or scope. See Rules that produce too many violations, how to tune for a closer look at the high-volume case specifically.
