An exception allows a specific asset to continue matching a rule's pattern without generating new violations, while leaving the rule itself unchanged for everything else.
Grant an exception
Choosing a scope and writing the reason
- Open the violation.
- Click Grant exception.
- Choose the scope: this specific asset, or a broader pattern.
- Write a reason.
- Confirm.
When to use an exception instead of a dismissal
Use a dismissal for a one-time false match. Use an exception when you expect the same legitimate match to keep coming up, for example, a legal disclaimer that happens to contain wording your rule normally flags.
Exceptions don't have to be permanent
Exceptions can be time-limited. See Time-limited exceptions and what happens when they expire.
