What belongs in a debrief (and what doesn't)

Last reviewed Sep 6, 2026

A debrief is most useful when it captures what actually happened and what to do differently, rather than repeating information already on the record.

What belongs

Outcome, learning, and surprises

  • A short summary of the outcome relative to what was expected.
  • What worked well and should be repeated.
  • What didn't work, and a specific, actionable change for next time.
  • Anything unexpected that came up after launch, whether from customers, a connected system, or another team.

What doesn't belong

  • A restatement of the campaign's original offer terms or dates. Those are already on the record.
  • Blame directed at a specific person. Debriefs are about the campaign, not performance reviews.
  • Speculative claims not grounded in what actually happened.
